Imagine a trash can in a typical home. When the trash can fills up, what happens if nobody brings it out to the curb?
At first, nothing happens. In a few days, however, the home begins to stink, which bothers the homeowner, but he buys some room spray to cover up the smell. Eventually flies are attracted to the trash, which is truly upsetting to the homeowner. He manages the situation by purchasing bug spray to kill off the insects. The homeowner is now left with trash in the corner, a smell that requires daily room freshener to cover up, dead flies on the floor, and toxic bug spray in the air. If only he’d just taken out the trash!
This analogy, painted by naturopathic elder Dr. Jared Zeff, beautifully illustrates the importance of proper elimination. Through breathing, crying, urinating, defecating, sweating, and menstruating (for women), our bodies “take out the trash.” When that doesn’t happen, the “flies” starting coming.
The flies aren’t the problem, just a symptom of one.
Acne, foul body odor, halitosis (bad breath), bodily pain, brain fog, emotional upset, and gastrointestinal symptoms are all examples of the “flies” that begin swarming when elimination is compromised.
Conventional medicine tends to deal with the flies through medications that work like bug spray. But, like bug spray, these methods only work so well, and they come with their own slew of risks and unpleasant side effects.
Our cleansing and detoxification program is designed to deal with the “bugs” at their true source: the trash. Unlike other detoxes, ours includes eating real food for every day of the cleanse. We also know that detox happens more than just at the level of the liver: we target the other organs of elimination to help you get the maximum healing benefit from your cleanse.
At Natura Integrative Medicine, your doctor will work with you to support your body’s ability to heal and eliminate in a manner that is gentle and supportive so that you can be a happier, healthier, more energetic you.
